Hello everybody,
Strange that a software like Sony Vegas "seems" to be limited in producing "workable" files not larger than 2GB. Obviously this is not normal!
Some words of explanation : I make AVC/H.264 (1280x720@60p) movies, as long as the film does not exceed 20 minutes of duration, the rendered output file (in MP4) is smaller than 2GB. GSPOT is able to recognize its content and any player is capable of playing the file. So far so good.
When longer than 20 minutes or larger than 2GB, GSPOT is not capable of identifying the content, nor is any player (not even a multimedia hard disk) capable of playing the file.
Is there some option to set or something to do, to have files larger than 2GB being able to be played ?
BTW, I have a work around : split the project into smaller pieces, render them and then append them to each other. But this is a pure waste of time.
Looking forward to be reading you

in options\preferences\general - do you have "Strictly conform to AVI2 spec" checked?
-
If your HD is FAT16, there is a 2GB filesize limitation
FAT32 -> 4GB
right click your hard drive in "my computer" on windows, and select properties to check -
Hello to all,
Thanks four your replies!
I did check my system : NTFS drives, but the option "stricly conform to AVI2" was not checked!!
I'll render one of my very large projects to see whether the resulting file runs on my players.
BTW, for those who asked for : i use Media Player Classic Home Cinema for playback, and I use a TViX HD 4100 SH Multimedia HardDrive hooked up on my home cinema.
Best regards

Hello to all,
Unfortunately I didn't solve my problem
What am I doing exactly : assemble MP4 footage (AVC/h.264 1280x720@60p video, AAC 48kHz-16bit audio) and render it using the provided Sony AVC template (which I adjusted to my specific needs)
Since the project footage is 22 minutes long, the resulting file (an MP4 with 1280x720@60p AVC/h.264 14Mbits - 48kHz 16bit AAC audio) sizes 2.32 GB. GSPOT is not capable of identifying what the content is (no video codec, no audio codec) and neither WMP nor Mediaplayer classic can play the file. Whereas a smaller file (ie <=2GB) and all my smaller projects (ie <=17 minutes) run very well.
If provide here some screen copies of GSPOT (a recognized file and a non one) and the video settings of my render template in Sony Vegas pro 8.0c
(I don't know how to insert images here, so I give an url link to get them)

Some more info : my drive are NTFS, the option "strictly conform to AVI2" is checked in Sony Vegas pro

MediaInfo is better suited to H264 material than G-Spot, so give that a go.
Encode at 12Mb/s, which should drop you just below the 2 GB mark and see if it plays. (And why do you use such a high bitrate for video, and such a low bitrate for audio ?)
Other things to try include
Sony AVC -> m2ts container @ 14Mb/s
Mainconcept AVC @ 14 Mb/sRead my blog here.
