  1. I reformated my computer with Windows XP with SP2. I am trying to get my SD reader to work by installing this "SD Secure Module for Windows XP SP2"

    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=856524&moid=120911...all_docs=false

but some reason, it still does not read SD cards. Any other tips?

Could be any number of things:

    1) bad SD card - you can verify by using in another piece of hardware

2)bad card reader - verify by installing and testing in another PC

3)wrong drivers or improperly installed drivers for the card reader - no way to know for certain, but you can check Device Manager to ensure Windows at least thinks it is properly installed

4)whatever software you are using to read the cards may be improperly configured, out of date, or doesn't support SD cards

5)Windows may not be properly patched or up to date OR may not match the version of the "SD Secure Module" software you are trying to use. The link above states "SP2" and doesn't get very specific, so you would likely at least need to patched up to SP2. If your version is current, then you are running SP3 (which may be the cause of the problem)

  3. nope, SD card reader was working right before I reformated with Win XP w/ SP2. It's the same drivers that came with the laptop. Could it just have died?

  4. Hi everyone, I'm not THAT familiar with the drivers that I need

    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp?moid=1209115&rpn=PSM5...ceghdgngdgmm.0

When I go to check my hardware configurations, it has the following three items with the yellow question mark (meaning it is not installed and functioning properly)

    1) Mass Storage Controller- PCI bus 6, device 4, function 3
    2) PCI Modem-PCI bus 0, device 30, function 3
    3) Video Controller-PCI bus 0, device 2, function 1 (is this video card ??? )

I'm not sure the link has what I need to fix the 3 above?
(I still have not solved the SD card reader)

    1) Tried inserting with more than one SD card, still doesnt work.
    2) Can't really take out of my laptop to try on another one...not sure
    3) SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller (in Device Manager) indicates it is working.
