    Hi All,
I have been trying to get DTS audio to play via HDMI connection on the Philips DVP5990. I was looking at the FAQ on the philips support website for the player and one of the questions was "Why is there no sound during DTS DVD playback?" I have attached an image of what the answer looks like. It has a section on doing DTS with HDMI but it says go to "Digital Audio Setup" and then to "HDMI Audio Setup" on the players settings menu. However there isnt an "HDMI Audio Setup" option under there in my player. I am connecting the player directly to my TV via hdmi. Any Ideas?

    Thanks

Eject the tray, and empty it for any media. Then push the Setup button.

The "Audio Setup Page", (Main menu, second from left), should have six items:

    "Analogue Output"
    "Digital Audio Setup"
    "HDMI Audio"
    "Sound Mode"
    "CD Upsampling"
    "Night Mode"

    If not, post again.

"digital audio" is greyed out when "HDMI Audio" is set to on. When I turn off "HDMI Audio" then digital audio setup is no longer greyed out. In the digital audio setup there is nothing in that menu that says "HDMI Audio Setup" which is what the philips page describes

    Try this:

    Turn off "HDMI Audio".

In "Digital Audio Setup", set the output mode to "Raw"

Connect SPDIF out, on the DVD-player, to SPDIF in on your surroundreceiver.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my dvp5990 : no DTS sound via HDMI connection, and I suspect it's a firmware issue... I have the latest ( as far as I know anyway) firmware installed , which is /34... Can anyone confirm this?
Or does anyone know a solution besides the alternative connection like SPDIF?
    Thanks..

    According to the FAQ:
    http://blog.techflaws.org/2008/11/01/philips-dvp3260-5990-faq/

Playback of DTS audio, there is no alternative to SPDIF-out.
