Hello everyone. I hope this thread goes down ok. I have searched and not found any help so far. So here goes.
I have been one of the many who got great help from Hakan replacing HDD's on my 540-HX etc. But recently the Burner started to fail. So I got a replacement from an eBay source. Swapped the Controller Board to maintain the CPRM details etc and all worked fine, until I managed to drop the Display electronics and momentarily short out onto one of the Mosfets Heatsinks on the PSU. So question is can anyone help me with either a shematic of the Power supply Board, or even a replacement powersupply unit. I do know from experiments that the PSU from the Pioneer DVR-545 also Fits and works fine in the 540, so one of those would be great too. Help from anyone with any added data would greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks Paul. (Manchester UK)

  2. Did you ever get the service manual? I'm pretty sure Hkan can help you with that, also you can buy them cheaply on sites like Retrevo.

Kudos to you for actually disassembling the damn thing: I've been repairing every imaginable Pioneer since 2004, but the 540 and later burner is so embedded in the chassis I refuse to touch it unless I can get my hands on a spare first. Which leads me to, where on earth did you find a supplier of spare burners? I and Hkan and many others have been turning the planet upside down since 2006, trying to locate an affordable generic version of the Sony burner that we could use by swapping the controller board, and you just happened to find one online? Please give more info, or at least reveal the generic burner model number you discovered: a lot of x40 recorder burners are nearing end of life. Up til now, the only source for replacement burners have been Pioneer or Sony service centers at the absurd price of $300 US, not exactly cost-effective for a $299 US recorder. Any leads you can provide on DIY replacement would be invaluable.

Hello Orsetto, many thanks for the reply and details. Firstly can I alert people to a very helpful source of PSU's. This would be for people with minimal knowledge who don't want to buy seconds. Power Components B.V. Marco Delsink E:marco@powercomponents.nl W: powercomponents.nl
I hope these semi links don't Infringe any listing disciplines. A very helpful guy, I hope this helps someone else. Secondly I should clarify I got my burner spares from a physically damaged burner which was ex shop demo with ZERO use! How lucky was I !!!.......so sadly I cannot yet give all you good folks a DIY source. But I will also keep searching. Quite poor really when you consider we all know they would be a weak spot (pardon any Unintended Pun) As for the PSU schematics I didn't want to bother HKan again, he'd already been a superstar. I resorted to a PC app to allow me to go from hand drawn schematic to something I could actually work from. But due to brain drain got halfway through and switched projects doh! I will finish it I will.......LOL....... anyways I hope the contact helps some folks. Still always glad to hear from anyone with a workable PSU schematic. Many thanks to Orsetto and HKan to date, and anyone else in advance..........Paul
