Can someone please tell me, how I can convert a specified DVD clip into a uncompressed AVI file? All I want to do is to select the scene (clip) that I need (for example from minute 16:57 to minute 20:13) and then rip it into the AVI file. I found thousands of tools, but 50 percent of them aren't working or to difficult to look through and understand.

Is there any free (or if not payable) tool that handles my problem?

Thanks for all your hints. I am new in the video 'business'.

  2. If it's a commercial DVD you'll need to rip to the hard drive first with DVD Decrypter, or DVD Fab. Then open a VOB file with VirtualDubMod, mark the section you want to save, and save as AVI.

Or use dvd shrink in the reauthoring mode to select the part you want. Save. Open then vob in virtualdubmod, avidemux or xvid4psp and save as uncompressed avi or dv-avi.

Is there any step-by-step tutorial you could recommend? I don't know what to do with all this programs. Neither do I know what codecs I should have installed on my system...
