  1. Is it possible to make a high quality vcd?

I only have 6 minutes of high quality video and the rest is menus.. etc. So its not worth it to buy dvd disc for something that low..

but on the other hand, i don't want the movies to be crappy quality(320x ...). So is there a way to make high quality vcd that would work on standalone dvds?

    help is appreciated thanks

    one word, "depends"!

i think most DVD players that support CD-R/RW media and play VCDs can handle standard rez (352x240/288) VCDs with variable bitrates. it's when u start changing the rez that the pool of "compatible" players diminishes. out of the four standalones i own, only the JVC will play a 720x480 rez, variable bitrate XVCD.

  4. Did you consider the option of creating a MiniDVD (DVD on a 650Mb/700Mb CD ROM).
Of course, as mentioned above , your player must able to accept this type of disc.

  5. How do you do a miniDVD?

    I made 720x576 video and 48KHz sound

Then I used SPRUCE authoring software to make AUDIO_TS / VIDEO_TS

When I got the VOBS and those dirs WHAT DO YOU DO?

    - I used NERO and created a UDF/ISO but I get nothing from my NINTAUS N9901

    - I used GEARDVD and I created the same... Nintaus donīt recognise it...

How do you do to create miniDVD with CDs? Do you use different method?

  7. I would say SVCD is your best option for compatability and quality.

  8. I captured 704-480 at 6000 bitrate and burned it as a non-complaint SVCD and it played and looked just liked the original on a Daewoo 5700 DVD player I just got at sams club for $99, I have never been able to play a bitrate even close to that high on any other DVD player, the picture is fantastic and I can get 14min. on 80min. CD-R. I use my Hauppauge PVR to capture the MPEG2. I tired 8000 bitrate but the DVD player choked on it.

  9. Unless you KNOW that your player can play miniDVD, I wouldn't bother. These are extremely poor supported.

SVCD is probably your best bet and if you need even higher quality, I would try an "XSVCD" with higher bitrate and/or framesize. Whether this will work or not will depend on your player.
