Hey all, for the last few days I've been stressing myself out trying to get an .ogm onto a dvd, the first thing I came across on the internet was this websites guide and I must say I've found it extremely helpful despite it's date, bar one or two problems.

The .ogm file came in two parts, from when I got them both parts were, obviously, playable on VLC but neither would play on WMP, the first thing I tried was to convert it to MPEG-2 using VLC's inbuilt function, unfortunately this wouldn't work because apparenty it couldn't recognize the encoder (Even though it had no problem playing the file) so I tried using VirtualDubMod and TMPGEnc instead, for the first part of the video this went relatively well. TMPGEnc wouldn't work at first because I lacked the necessary codecs etc etc but by the time I'd scoured the downloads for a video converter which worked, and picked up codecs that made it work, I found TMPGEnc Authoring Works instead, I downloaded the trial version and after a day of pulling my hair out I actually managed to get the first half of the video onto a dvd.

Not so lucky with the second half.

Even though the files should be practically identical (Both around the same size, both play on VLC, both were .ogm and renamed to .avi) the second one just plain won't work on any converter, even though VDM had no problem recognizing it and demuxing the subs and audio. Whenever I try to convert it using TMPGEnc, Authoring Works or no, it crashes the program and when I tried to change the properties of the avi using AVIReComp it gave me an error message claiming my video was not a valid .avi.

    Additional information there.

Thank you in advance for reading =)

Try dvd flick or/and convertxtodvd, load the ogm and if they don't find the subs then load them manually.

Thank you very much for the advice, dvd flick worked a charm.

I accidently managed to convert the whole thing without burning it onto a disc, is there any easy way of burning all these folders and titles and crap to dvd without going through the whole converting process again?

I apologize if this is a dumb question, I'm unused to burning anything that isn't pure media file to disc.

It's not a dumb question at all; this stuff is not obvious by any means.

For starters, reading "What is DVD" in the upper left corner of this page is helpful in understanding a bit about the file structure of a DVD. In order to be playable on a standalone player, the disc has to contain the video in the form of .vob files ("video object") inside a VIDEO_TS folder. Unlike a data disc, a DVD has to be burned in a different way, exactly as you surmised. Many tools exist for doing this; a favorite here is ImgBurn (free and highly versatile). As long as you have kept the VIDEO_TS folder that contains the .vob files (and .ifo and .bup; see the What is DVD page for a discussion of what those are), you can always burn them again with ImgBurn.

  5. I know you've already gotten past your initial problem but...

Don't rename an OGM file to AVI. That is likely to confuse many editors. Renaming an OGM file does not make it an AVI file. They are different containers with different properties and require different handling. Yes, some editors (and most media players) will identify the container by examining the actual content of the file, but I wouldn't count on this.

VirtualDubMod's OGM support is very rudimentary and outdated. Nearly useless. But if it does work for your OGM file try simply remuxing into an AVI. Video and Audio Direct Stream Copy, Save as AVI.

Try using AviDemux to remux the OGM streams into an AVI if you need the AVI container.

Either of those should give you an AVI file that most programs can deal with.
