  1. what colour could I print a 100 page document to use all inks equally?,,sorry I am not at all artistic, but end up always using black and the colours get old and clogged (bit like me)-thanks

    You pretty much can't, on most modern printers. On the old single-cartridge printers, they used a tri-color cart to make black (all colors mixed equally), but most new printers have multiple carts (4 or more), so you get true black.

    It also depends on the document. If it is mostly pictures, it may use the colors equally. If mostly text, it will mostly use black.

    You may want to look into a cheap monochrome laser printer. I got a Dell and HP for $65 and $120, respectively. For the occasional color print, I use my Epson inkjet (for home projects).

    You might try telling the printer that you are using photo paper instead of plain.
    I have a Canon printer that uses a separate black pigment cart for text.
    If I select 'photo', then the dye carts are used (black being generated from a composite of the colours).
