    Hello,
I downloaded some karaoke videos from internet and created vcd from them using roxio. I can't seem to suppress vocal by pressing audio on remote controller. I am a newbie on this, and any advice is greatly appreciated. I've got on my hard drive some audio and video converters such as super,audacity,etc.. Thanks a million in advance.

Downloaded some karaoke videos? We need more informatin than that. Does they contain two audio channels? or separate audio in left and right channel? Or else can't you switch/disable the vocals.

    thanks for ur reply baldrick.

I believe they contain two audio channels not separate audio in left and right channels. I downloaded videos that i was streaming. I could download in either flv or mpg4 format. i did it in mpeg4. I used roxio converter to convert files into vcd mpeg1 files and burnt them. The video/audio quality is great. but can't suppress vocals. Please advise. Thanks

Go back to the mp4 source and check it with media info. It will tell you if you have multiple audio tracks.

I checked mpeg4 files downloaded via mediainfo.
    Mpeg4:
    1 video stream: AVC
    1 audio stream:AAC,125kbps,44.1KHz,2channels

    Please advise. thanks

Then you don't have two audio tracks. If the audio track of the source is mixed then you are back to square one, and pretty much out of luck.

This indicates 2 channels, (note the comment 1 audoi stream means there is only one stream and not say a second language track) now they might be left and right or they may be double mono. If they are mono then subtracting one channel from the other will give you nothing. If they are stereo then subtracting Left from Right will give you (L+1/2C) - (R+1/2C) = L-R in other words common material to both channels will be canceled leaving you with in theory just the orchestra BUT it all depends on where and how the vocal was mixed.

The easiest way to try it is dig out an old copy of Cool Edit Pro or similar, Goldwave etc and select from the menu 'extract audio from video'. Then go to filters and find the built in vocal remover. if you are lucky you may have just the orchestra. Note you may have to demux part of the file to extract the audio in case CoolEdit doesn't do aac
