No, they are the same. People sometimes leave out the "HD" when discussing them. Just remember that ATI/AMD did not release Windows 7 drivers for the USB version.

I just had some fun getting the TV Wonder 650 pci-e installed and working under Windows 7 64 bit so I did a lot of research. If I remember correctly you can actually get the USB one to work, but you have to use a driver that doesn't list it as being supported. It was suggested that ATI/AMD probably wanted you to unnecessarily buy a new card so they didn't bother to tell you that their drivers would work anyway on the USB model.

Note that CMC (Catalyst Media Center) may not work at all on Windows 7 and possibly Vista. However, Windows Media Center should enable you to access the card. Recording from VHS will be a bit challenging using WMC as it's really only designed for TV captures. You'll have to turn it to channel 3 and start your VCR and if you see a signal then manually start recording it.

I think there are more differences between the internal versions of the TV Wonder 600 and its USB version than is there are with the Theater 650-based devices.

This post details the method that one of our members, vaporeon800 had to use to get his TV Wonder HD 600 USB working with Windows 7 64-bit. The drivers used did not come from ATI, and I think some people would find the installation process a bit daunting. https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/331817-Best-MPEG-2-Capture-Device?p=2059630&viewful...=1#post2059630
