    Which software is the best FREE software to change a WMA file to an MP3??

    i don't know about being the best but i currently use "Switch sound file converter from http://www.nch.com.au/switch/ it reverts to the free version after trial expires, but still does the main file formats. Seems to work well.

    No need for sound recording, the 1.3.6 beta of Audacity added support for ffmpeg enabling
    ... import and export audio files in a wide range of formats, including WMA, M4A, and AC3. You can even import audio tracks from video files using FFmpeg.

    Thanks for this update. The OP is probably long gone but just as a note for anyone else: After installing Audacity you must also install (or already have installed) ffmpeg for this to work. Then you have to tell Audacity where the ffmpeg dll is located. Edit -> Preferences -> Import/Export -> ffmpeg Import/Export Library...

    The download link provided in Step 1 gives a 403 error, though. That's why I was having problems a while back trying to get the version of LAME the new Audacity betas wanted. But you can go to the base level of the website - http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ - and find download links there.
