Does anyone know if I can obtain 1920x1080 Windows resolution from PC-to-HDTV without HDMI cable?
I currently have VGA/PC cable to HDTV and cannot exceed 1360x768 Windows resolution so I cannot see full HD when playing 1920x1080p movies from my PC.
I have tried DVI-HDMI cable but it introduces a lot of grain and weird lines in movies.
What can I do?
Thanks.

If your graphics card can (with the latest drivers) output a 1920 X 1080, and if your HDTV can accept 1920 X 1080 through the VGA cable, then yes.

However I suspect that your TV cannot accept 1920 X 1080 if it is currently only connecting at 1360 X 768. You will have to consult your TV manual to confirm what it can do over VGA.

As DVI/HDMI is a digital signal you should not be getting distortions unless the cables are substandard.Read my blog here.

Thanks. After reading your post I consulted the TV's manual and it seems my TV does not accept resolutions over 1360x768 via VGA/PC input.

The manual said only HDMI can accept 1920x1080 on my TV. Bah!

I just don't know why connecting with HDMI introduces a lot of grain and horizontal fine lines in movies.

I will try buying a different DVI-HDMI cable.

 Thanks again.

What is the make/model of your HDTV? I'm guessing its native resolution is 768p. Check the manual to verify. If it is a 720/768p then even if the HDMI port allows for 1080, its downscaling the video to 720p (then again up to 768 if needed).Have a good one,
