ive ripped several dvds, that im unable to rip again atm, to my pc and afterwards have deleted all files except the vob files. when trying to view some of the dvds they automatically play in another language. and when trying to edit them with dvd shrink they dont display anything so i cant reauthor. what can i do to get dvd shrink to read the vobs again so i can reedit them removing the different language audio streams. ??

Welcome. Nice to have you here. There are a couple of options you could try. IFOEdit (use "Create IFO" button.). If that does not work out, you could use VOBEdit to demultiplex the VOBs into elementary streams, and re-author them as a menuless DVD with muxman (free) or IFOEdit, with just the subtitles and audio you want to keep.
[Edit] Sorry, I didn't look carefully. Your membership is dated April 7, not June 7. You're sitll welcome in any case.

Here is a guide for the IfoEdit "Create IFO" method:
http://members.dodo.com.au/~jimmalenko/test.htm#ifoeditIf in doubt, Google it. -
cheers, but it didnt work. when trying to play it still comes up in the other language even after setting all to english. there is heaps of subpictures in the ifos, clicking on different vobs gives me diff languages sometimes and directors commentary on some of the vobs but not all. this is the case with many dvds ive ripped. is there anything else i can do here ?/

Did you try demultiplexing the VOBs and re-authoring as I suggested (not using DVD Shrink) yet? That is your only other option as far as I know.
-
After creating the IFOs with IFO edit, try to load the disc into DVD Shrink. If it opens you can then output a new disc with only the languages you want.
Read my blog here.

How are you playing it? If you're just double-clicking on a VOB and playing it as a file, then any language in there might play. If you play it as a DVD, then the first language will play, with the option of choosing any of the others. That's the way it's supposed to work, anyway, if you (or IFOEdit) recreated the DVD properly.Originally Posted by krohm

If you "click on a VOB", whatever viewer you're using won't refer to the IFO files and use the DVD structure, it'll treat it as an MPEG video.Originally Posted by krohm
Use some DVD playing app and point it to the VIDEO_TS folder.
Anyway, if you have created IFOs, you can now use DVDshrink and make a new DVD, choosing which audio and subtitle tracks to keep. -
Setting the attributes in the IFO to English does exactly that - sets the attributes, not changes the default audio stream on playback. Follow the guide again but don't change the audio info to English (I only included that in the guide because all the DVDs I do are English default). Load the IFOs that this process created into DVDShrink and untick the audio streams you don't want. You might also have to change the settings so that logical remapping of streams is enabled.Originally Posted by krohmIf in doubt, Google it.

thanks for all the replies people, i did only double click on the VOB in media player classic. so i cant open it like a dvd, as media player classic tries to open a disc when clicking on open dvd.
i have already tried to open the dvd folder in dvdshrink to reauthor and it comes up blank as it did earlier. when going to file open, it sais failed to open vts_01. the files arent named, they are named vts_03 so i renamed them and it still wouldnt open because now of the ifo names,. i renamed them to what it wanted and dvd shrink gave the error that it cant open the next ifo file which doesnt exist. seems like a recurring theme.
ill give dvdflick a try.. but still cant get this working. i have many dvds with this issue. some of them play but then the final vob or one of the vobs will play in another language or play with directors commentary on them etc. ill try dvdflick but the problem is still not sorted.. what can i do here.... -
dvdflickwont let me open one of the titles. and when editing the others, they all say that english is the only track language in the vob files. !? ????
what the hell -

You could demux (I use DGIndex - open the VOBs and then File->Save Project and Demux Video) followed by a proper reauthor (Muxman). Both free.Originally Posted by krohm

A demux and re-author do not lose quality. Demuxing merely separates the audio and video, but otherwise leaves them untouched. Reauthoring just recombines them, and reconstructs a proper DVD folder structure. Again, the audio and video are not molested in any way.
"No bits were injured during the making of this film." -
tomlee59 out-typed me. I was going to write the same thing.
Anyway, the purpose for doing this is to allow you to examine the audio, video, and subpicture streams, select those you want to keep, and re-assemble them in a different way that will work better for you.

In ifoedit you have to track down the location which specifies the audio tracks and numbers, here you change their individual language type and other specs, in both ifo's and save, this will work correctly.
In the case of dvdflick and with a problematic vob Id go the whole way and use an app like vobedit and demux the whole thing into separate video, audio and subtitle streams ... add the video then hit "edit title" to the right ... here you include audio streams and subtitles and specify the languages required ... all too neat. -
I don't rate that as much of a problem - they can stay as "unspecified" and just use DVDShrink's preview to work out which is which. The problem is throwing a VTS_03... VOB set at IfoEdit, instead of renaming them to VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB ... etc etc. Gotta get the files to open in DVDShrink first !Originally Posted by BjsIf in doubt, Google it.

it gave an error advising the audio was exceptionally large, clicking ok allowed the process to go through anyways but when remuxing it the video plays with an audio delay and the video is blued out?Originally Posted by manono
ifoedit and vobedit are both pretty complicated dont know how to get them working. got the ifos created based on the above instructions but it didnt allow me to open in dvdshrink \, and vobedit i got no idea how to get working.
i have these vobs and just want them to play english ! is there anything else i can do to get it to open in dvdshrink.. cause i have heaps of dvds ive ripped that are like this and would want a simple process to get them working. need some further help direction on what to do here.. -
It's not the audio that's exceptionally large, but the audio delay. Two ways to fix or work around that. Perhaps the easier is to use the [ button in DGIndex to open the video some GOPs (a few seconds) in from the beginning, until you no longer get that message when going File->Save Project and Demux Video. This works best if there are black frames at the beginning. You'll still have to take the audio delay as given in the audio file name into account when muxing.Originally Posted by krohm
Oh, as of a few days ago there's a new DGIndex, Ver. 1.5.5. Make sure and use that one.
The other way is to remove the delay entirely when muxing by first running the AC3 audio through DelayCut.
How are you muxing? How are you playing? Did you use Muxman to reauthor, as I suggested? No?...and the video is blued out? -
it will audio delay everytime when muxing, how the hell would a program fix that it would never be synced properly again would it ? i have no idea..Originally Posted by manono
yeah, like everything has a blue layer over it, the people are blue etc..and the video is blued out?
yes. i said that already, thats how the blue video audio sync delay problem occurredHow are you muxing? How are you playing? Did you use Muxman to reauthor, as I suggested? No?
is there a way i can just get it back into dvdshrink... -
No, you didn't. And I have never in thousands of muxes using Muxman ever - ever - seen a blue screen. I ask again, how are you playing it? What happens when you play the M2V that DGIndex demuxes? Is it also blue? What happens when you use a different player?Originally Posted by krohm
Before you can open anything in Shrink, it has to be authored correctly. I explained 2 ways to fix the audio delay you're experiencing. Have you tried either one of them? Once you get an audio delay under +/- 300ms, you can use the delay feature of Muxman to correct for it. If greater than that you have to use DelayCut.is there a way i can just get it back into dvdshrink... -
not sure why it went all blue layered;
just redid the entire process, reprocessed the audio with delaycut (didnt notice that dgindex had outputted the audio file with the exact milliseconds it was out in the actual filename). So just set that delay time in delaycut reprocessed it and then remuxed it wit muxman. Worked perfectly, have new vts vob files and ifo files that recognise in dvdshrink, but dont need it now ! oh yea !!
cheers for the help manono
