Just get rid of interlace problems, no good quality expected

Hi!

I am new to this forum, so please excuse my ignorance.

I have captured a LOW-resolution LOW-quality realmedia video, via my computers svideo-out to a DV tape. Then I read the DV tape back into the computer, and author a DVD from it. Then I get interlace problems, which makes it really irritating to watch. This is especially stupid since I could cope with 25 or 30 fps with a LOW resolution. The video is not the point, it is the audio, since it is a very good lecture.

I think that one way to go could be to convert the DV data by dropping all even (or odd) fields. Is there any free or cheap software that could do that?

Or do you have a better solution to my problem?

Hard to watch on your PC, or on TV after authoring ?

If only on the PC then chance are you won't have the problems on your TV.

It is on the PC, I don't know how it looks on a TV, I don't have any.

However, other DVD's look good when played on the PC.

Is there actually no way of doing this easily with a free software?

I mean, Just removing odd frames and duplicate the even ones, in the DV file.

Most players include on-the-fly deinterlacing while you play a DV AVI. If you're making a DVD you should ignore the comb artifacts and make an interlaced DVD. It will look fine when played on TV.

If you reall want to deinterlace get the latest VirtualDub and do the following

1) File -> Open Video File
2) Video -> Filters -> Add -> Deinterlace -> choose from many (Yadif, ELA, etc.)
3) Video -> Compression -> pick your codec
4) File -> Save as AVI

Do you have an actual "realmedia video" file that you started with? DVD Flick (free) may be able to directly convert it to DVD.
