  1. Got me a Samsung 650 series 42" HDTV a few weeks ago. Copied a few VIDEO_TS folders onto my external WD hard drive and was successfully able to play movies on the new set. However it would not advance to next VOB file after it finished playing the first VOB file. I decided to recreate the files using "single VOB file" option in DVDShrink but that produced all sorts of wacky problems on playback (time progress bar doesn't reflect full length of movie, no audio unless you pause and then resume playback, etc.).

Anyone have success doing something like this?

Also, I noticed that in some cases the set remembered where I stopped playback of a file. In most cases, however it always started playback from the beginning.

I seem to recall looking into that TV option once before for another user. That line of TV's has the ability for remote playback of files. If I remember correctly, operation was pretty much hit and miss. It seemed to either work or it didn't. As with file support on standalone Divx players, it's a matter or trial and error to find what works and what doesn't.

For you vob issue, you may get better results spending the time converting them to another format such as xvid. You should be able to create a quality copy with AC3 5.1 audio and save yourself quite a bit of HDD space.

I never used xvid before. Can you recommend a free converter? How does the quality of the two formats compare?
