INKSTOP has weekly ads for cheap offbrand digital camcorders and digital still cameras. They have an add for a 40.00 5mp still camera by VUESCAPE and a 60.00 DV CAMCORDER. Unfortunately it doesn't really say if the camcorder is to dv tape or if its technically a mp4 camcorder recording to flash at less than standard dvd resolution.
I'm not exactly in a market to buy a new camera right now. However my digital camera is an ancient SONY 2.1mp still. It's decent but the rebound between snapshots is pretty slow and only has video only no sound video recording features. Plus the downside is it only uses the first generation MEMORY STICKS and the largest I have is 64mb and I've checked the memory duo sticks won't work in it.
I'd like to eventually get a new camera but not wanting to spend too much money on one. Also I still have a functional albeit outdated analog non-hi 8mm Sony camcorder from about the same time the 2.1mp camera was purchased.
The troubling thing to me is i can't seem to find a vuescape home page to get specs on the cameras. Normally when you do a google or yahoo search for a name brand the home page is one of the very first searches that pops up. I don't get that when I type in VUESCAPE.
Now like I said I'm not ready to go buy right this minute. Probably in the next several months. Perhaps. I do know with the traditional BLACK FRIDAY sales just around the corner there will probably be some outstanding name brand cameras on the chopping block. But if I'm unable to attend the events I know these off brand cameras will be around on the cheap after the sales bonanza.
Any insight would be useful.

A side note - are DV Cameras still using 3CCD as the best imaging available in standard definition camcorders? Is that what allows for 720x480 ntsc dvd quality video?

EDIT - the only other detail on the ad for INKSTOP for the VUESCAPE still camera is this digit string - 160002286.

I have one. For a basic toss around camera, it does better than others I have tried for more money. It uses standard AA Batteries so no charging or anything else is required. It does NOT use SDHC, only SD. But for the price, and the fact that it does go on sale every so often, I am not afraid to have it in harms way.
I only wish I could find the instuction manuals for it in other languages.LWDC -

You might want to try this one instead. I realize an old post, but what the heck. Yeah, it can be had quite easily at K-Mart for around $89 bucks.
I don't think any of these types (dvcam) shoot actual DV 4:1:1 video. They all shoot to a JPEG mpeg4 format.
I think they are all .asf format, and I don't know what the bitrate is on them either..maybe lwdc can share insight on this.
The one you're possibly interested (or not, by now) is limited to 640x480 res for video, but on the AipTek version, its 720x480.
720 x 480 Pixels (D1) up to 30 fps
640 x 480 Pixels (VGA) up to 30 fps
320 x 240 Pixels (QVGA) up to 30 fps
This is the one that i was looking at, and it ain't half-bad looking neither:
