This is kind of a shady question so bare with me. My friend got a powerful wireless antenna so he could catch a coffee shops wireless internet. He catches the signal but he wants to broadcast that signal that he catches throughout his house using the same antena. What would he need to bee able to broadcast that signal that he catches throughout his house?

That be a receiver ... not an antenna

Get a wireless router to broadcast incoming signal locally.

I assume the antenna is directional. He should bridge to a separate wireless access point with an omnidirectional antenna set to a different wireless channel. If I were the coffeeshop, I'd block his mac address or shield the antenna from that direction.

With a couple of yagi antennas pointed at each other, one can extend a WiFi connection for miles.

I'll second that. My brother has 4 coffeeshops and has installed a wireless access point in each of them for the use of his customers. At one shop it was noticed that the same car would often be parked outside with someone sitting in it. He never got out of the car but was often parked there for 3 or 4 hours. Fearing the worst, one of his braver staff members went outside to see if he could see what was happening. In the car was a guy sitting there with his laptop using their access point. After my brother identified which MAC address belonged to him and blocked it, he had the cheek to go into the shop to ask why the access point wouldn't let him in any more! As he was told, if he had actually gone into the shop a bought a coffee he could have stayed there all day long if he wanted to.

It's amazing how many Coffee Shops/Restaurants/Donut Shops/Bars/etc. are clueless about the wireless service they provide. I was in an IHOP once that was in a strip mall and I could see and connect to the Jimmy Johns, Zoup, and one other store in the mall, but I couldn't get connected to the IHOP. I could detect it, but couldn't connect. I asked the waitress for assistance and she told me to use the Jimmy Johns, because they had a better connection anyway. I told her that wasn't right, and that since I was her customer, I should be using their wireless. She called the manager over and he also told me to use JJs and that they were having a lot of problems with theirs and he was a friend of the JJ manager. I did, but I made a point of going over and buying a sandwich from JJ's when I left.

gadgetguy, when I was wardriving, I found used your wireless. I felt a bit weird, so I went in your house and drank all of your beer. Was that wrong?

I've told this story before, but:

When I was in an apartment complex years ago, I had a secured router that went bad. My computers simply connected to the next available wireless (a neighbor's), and I didn't know until several months later, when his service started having problems.
Point is, if it's not malicious, don't sweat it. Hell, I'll even tell the surrounding businesses that i can get into their wireless, and the usual responses: Oh or So?

Then your response should have been "That wasn't beer."
