How do I Create a stronger wireless signal to travel 3 floors

I live in a townhouse and my Wireless router is on the bottom floor, but I want to create a wireless environment that would allow me to use the internet on a computer we have on the 3rd floor. I already bought a wireless card for the PC, but I don't think the signal is strong enough, what would I need to get to pick up the signal. Would an Apple Airport do the trick?

What kind of "Wireless router is on the bottom floor"?

Simple solution is to add a directional antenna. You can buy repeaters for most brands but that mostly makes it easier for your neighbors to hack you.

Are you sure the signal doesn't reach? Try moving the router around. Turn it on its side.

Other options would include getting a Draft N wireless router, or a G MIMO router, or looking at LAN over power and running an ethernet connection through your mains wiring.

Or it might be feasible to get a wireless access point as a reapeter. I'm not entirely sure what they entail. My understanding is they act as a midpoint to boost your original transmission signal. It would be placed at some midpoint between your transmitter and final destination.

Check out dlink or linksys and search for "extender" or "access point" to learn more.

BUT as suggested early do a test run before buying more equipment. You may find you have sufficient range for your needs.

EDIT - If you are using a "PC" as in WINDOWS then no do not buy anything APPLE. They won't talk to each other.

Just make sure you make 2 (one for the router and one for the receiving computer) 'cause it is silly if you can receive the signal but can't send the upload signal to the router.....

Also, do not laugh, but I tried the following and it actually work.

I was able to get the signal strength from 25% to 80% from the router. The only problem is I couldn't do the same thing to the router. So I end up having a one direction communicate only.....

That's probably the way I'd go.

You could hardwire it if you were mechanically inclined and get full LAN speeds instead of wireless speeds.
