Hello, I got myself a laptop with vista and installed divx player 7.0. Everything worked fine with the exception of the ability to burn files onto a dvd-rw disc. It's weird because I could burn onto cd-rw and dvd-r discs. Anyway, I previously used a windows xp desktop with the divx player and used all discs, including dvd-rw. So I wrote to the divx player website and they told me to download the allinonefix patch and select update burn egine only. I did this and now my divx player won't recognize my dvd drive at all, it says "no recorder found". I'm left without the ability to burn not even cd-rw. Fortunately only the divx player was affected and not my other programs ability to burn. I tried uninstalling divx player and the allinonefix file and reinstalling the player but still haven't been able to get it to recognize my dvd drive. So now I have to find a burner that will put my avi files onto cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, and dvd-rw discs. I've searched but so far all I've found is converters to dvd format. I don't want that. I want to be able to put 4 or more files onto dvd discs. Can someone suggest some free if possible avi burners. Also, if anyone can tell me how to get my divx player to recognize my dvd drive, it would be truly appreciated.

You've posted your question in the Authoring DVD subforum, but it doesn't seem that you want to author a DVD at all. Is that correct?

If so, then all you want is to burn a disc with your Divx file, without conversion? Then just burn it as you would any other data file. I don't understand what all this business is with the Divx player. That should have nothing whatever to do with burning files.

Just use whatever disc burning software you have. Imgburn is a particular favorite of folks on this forum -- it's free, and works great.

As tomlee59 noted almost any burning app will burn DATA discs. If you look on your new laptop you probably already have one of the various burning apps that manufacturers pre-install.
