Sorry if this has been asked before...
If I was to record TV using Vista Media Centre, will the the recorded DVR-MS files when converted to standard Mpeg2 format lose any video or audio quality?
Given that the answer will depend on the size of file in question, Is the this a slow process? using Q9450 + 3Gb Ram + Raptor HDD
I use Mpeg Editor 3 and TDA 3 but I have never encountered DVR-MS files before. The option to convert or accept this format is in both of the above programs. I understand that in most conversion processes that some some of change will occur to the output but any info on the amount of quality loss ( Audio & Video ) would be appreciated.

Nope, you shouldn't lose any quality. I would use DVRMSToolbox.

DVR-MS is an ASF wrapper containing MPeg2 video and MPeg1 layer 2 or AC3 audio. It also contains metadata optimized for the MCE PVR. MCE gives several bit rate options for recording. The MPeg2 can be extracted from the container or converted using various utilities (see The Green Button). Here is one guide.
