    Hey all,

    I got me a 7.1 receiver and a spiffy Playstation3.
The receiver is a $ony STR-DG1100 and is supposedly capable of "Up to 8 channels of Linear PCM audio Provides full compatibility with Blu-ray Disc® format's linear PCM (uncompressed) output, producing up to eight channels of "high quality" audio reproduction.".

When I choose the fancy new-fangled soundtrack with all the cool multi-track "uncompressed" audio, all I get is 2.0 sound...

I did download the instruction manual (thinking it might be 'updated' in some way compared to what was in the box) but as it was stated in Beetle Juice: "This thing reads like stereo instructions.".

I've got my PS3 connected via fiber optic.
On the PS3 audio options I'm not to sure which boxes to tick for output, as it's really not clear which of those available is actually supported by my receiver.

Been spending the last 2 hours digging through both owners manuals and the sites, but no dice.

Anybody know how to get the PCM/multi-channel/"uncompressed" audio from BluRay via PS3 to play properly on the DG1100?

    TIA!

    dammit!
Perhaps if I'd gotten the newest version of the PS3 manual...
7.1 is only output via HDMI.
This is retarded because PS2 and PS1 games with surround cannot be output via HDMI...
"When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings]."

I've got my HDMI going straight to the TV.
Video goes to the 'monitor' and audio goes to the receiver. Only makes sense right?

I don't suppose anybody here is familiar with this receiver's HDMI video pass-through capability/quality?

Wait a minute - I didn't think higher res audio was possible over the fiber optic?????? I thought the whole point of hdmi was for higher bandwidth for audio and video?

EDIT - sorry I'm not sure I was following your post. As far as I know the hdmi has to go the receiver first for full audio resolution.

I am afraid I only have a previous gen 5.1 dd/dts fiber optic/coax non hdmi model receiver. I don't know how pass through works. But as I think you are mentioning you need the signal to go to the receiver first then on to the tv for the audio to work at full power.

My guess is there is a master hdmi output slot on the receiver. From there it would be fed to the tvs hdmi input.

    edit 2 -

Unfortunately not anymore. Thats "old school". Re: comment above about hdmi with audio/video to the receiver first.

edit 3 - regarding the other post about ps1/2 games not outputting surround through hdmi - I didn't know about that. You'll still have to have a fiber optic cable settup to do that. Of course remember you'll have to switch to fiber optic in the menu before playing the game.

FYI I don't think any ps1 game had real surround sound. There might have been pro logic surround on many games - don't know for sure about that but definitely no digital surround on ps1.

    Yeah, pretty retarded...

Backward compatible! Sorta - but not the newer models, at all.
