Well i recently converted a movie from a .avi to .mpeg using Tmpgenc and after the convert the subtitles are almost unreadable like somehow in the conversion process they got shrunk and blurry. Now i know some video quality is going to be lost but i just dont understand why the subtitles went thru such a drastic change and if there is anyway i can fix it.

Shrunk? Then adjust the font settings in vobsub / vsfilter or ffdshow or whatever subtitle decoder tmpgenc uses to add the hardcoded subs.

Or add subs and convert to mpg using avidemux and you can adjust font settings directly in avidemux.
