    Hi!
I'm new here. I posted in this section because I wasn't sure where else this belongs. Hoping a admin/mod can move this if it's in the wrong spot.
My name is Sharon and I own a Dell Inspiron 600m, computer. I'm currently trying to put a Video onto a DVD-RW or DVD-R cd. I have both types of cd's. I'm wanting this to be able to be played in a dvd player.
My computer has a dvd burner in with it. I have tried numerous ways to get it to burn and it always comes up with something that is along the lines of "there is no recordable cd in drive".

I have Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker, and am willing to download something else if it will work.

Can anyone help me out? I've looked around this website to find something like this but couldn't. I may have overlooked it however, and I apologize.

Thank you in advance for any help given!

Neither WMP or WMM can make a DVD-Video.

Use instead DVD Flick(free) or ConvertXtoDVD($$), add the video files, convert and burn.

What type of video do you have ?

The video will have to be encoded to a DVD compliant format (see What is DVD - top left corner - for details), then authored into a DVD structure, and then burned to a DVD for playing on a standard DVD player.

If you don't need to do any editing to the video, then a simple all-in-one tool like ConvertXtoDVD might be the easiest solution, although it is not free. A free approach would be DVD Flick, FAVC or AVStoDVD.

    Burn the results with Imgburn.

Thank you both for the quick responses! I greatly appreciate it.
It was going along great with the DVD Flick one, and then when I told it to burn to cd it says, "No disc. Insert Disc." This disc is brand new, never been used before. Is there anything I can do?

Did you insert a CD or DVD blank ?

For DVD it will need a DVD disc, not a CD.

    I have a DVD+RW and DVD+R.
Both of these are brand new and blank. I tried both of them.

I saw at least one model of Inspirion 600m with a drive that burns CDs, but will only PLAY DVD, not burn DVD.

I used to have a different brand of laptop that was like that, and ended up buying a USB DVD burner that worked really well. Just plugged it in, and started making disks.

Also, if your drive DOES burn DVD, check to see if it might be limited to "plus" + or "minus" - format, this can sometimes be an issue with older machines. You can find the information by going to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, and see what it says in the section for CD/DVD drives.

    Hello!

Under the device manager, for the link that is for my D Drive, it says:

    DVD/CD-ROM Drives

If I click on this, it brings down a dropdown that says:

    SONY CDRW/DVD CRX830E

Can you make anything out of this?

    Thanks so much!

Also, if I need to make a prnt scrn of it so I can show it, I can do that. I have burnt CD's with this before, but never tried a dvd till now.

Looks like granny was right, your drive can only burn CDs and read DVD. You will need to purchase a drive that can burn DVDs if you want to do so.
