Earlier today, I tried turning on my computer, and it would normally light up orange for a few seconds before booting up the monitor screen and lights green, but today it stayed lit orange and the monitor is still non-responsive.

  2. I would first check to make sure all of the connections are secure, after that make sure the videocard and RAM are seated properly on the motherboard.
If that doesn't help then buy a new VGA or DVI cable, hopefully your monitor or videocard didn't go kaput.

OK the monitor works fine, it's just that the computer won't boot up the screen for it, and remains glowing orange instead of turning blue.

  4. I would still check the other things I mentioned, also check the PSU.
    Do you hear any fans?

  7. Tell us if the computer goes through Post OK or gives you beeps, if it post OK problem is from OS / windows if you get unusual beeps it's from hardware. If windows problem from another computer download Ubuntu image and burn it to cd. Google ubuntu and go to download page. Ubuntu can start your computer from cd directly without changing anything on HD. If windows is corrupted you can use it to backup your data and then fix it.

Well, yesterday I unplugged the main power source, then replugged it, and started working again, though I'll have to check later tonight to see if it still works.

Keep an eye on it and if it happens again intermittently or if you notice any other symptoms like sporadic reboots or shutdowns then it's the psu.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I had a similar problem with one computer awhile back, and initially assumed it was a video card problem. However, it turned out to be a slowly-dying power supply, which would sporadically work, then not work. Replacement of the PSU solved everything.

Your situation may be the same. Power supplies are usually first to go.

  11. Usually it's your PS if you get lights & stuff but no display.
