I have this reoccurring problem when trying to burn something on Dual Layer DVDs, when all the burns are complete I have the "success" message, but randomly some DVDs with that "success" message have no content burned on them(windows explorer registers them as "blank" upon reinsertion but of course the programs register that they are not blank)

I use Nero, Magic ISO Maker and DL DVDs are usually Imation but it makes no difference.

This is really annoying and costs me a lot of money to continually throw expensive DL DVDs in the trash. I just don't understand the randomness of it?

rule of thumb is to use IMGBURN to burn DUAL LAYER DVD+R media. Also use only VERBATIM DUAL LAYER media. VERBATIM is the only reliable DUAL LAYER media to use. All the other brands are basically crap.

Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to find a store with VERBATIM DL DVDs.

Order them online or live with the problems you're having with cheap crappy DL media.

Actually I was under the impression that Imation is one of the best.
Also, shouldn't there be some official body that regulates this and sanctions companies who make crappy products which you have to throw in the trash and having no possibility of refund if you opened the packaging?
I remember throwing 2 boxes of traxdata DVD in the trash, then I bought Imation, it is better but still random.

BTW, I have brand new Pioneer DVD RW DVR-116D in case you were wondering, but this is the same problem I had with my previous writer.

Also notice that all aforementioned(Traxdata, Imation, Verbatim) cost the same.

Like it or not, Verbatim DL +R discs are the only discs to produce consistent results across a range of burners for a large range of users. Imgburn is one of the few programs to be able to match these results. No other disc manufacturer has produced a disc that comes even close to Verbatim for DL quality. Sad, but true.

More people should know about this, the most common DVDs in stores are the worst-Traxdata.

I think it depends a lot on where you live and what's available in your country or your neighborhood.

Single layer Verbatims are available everywhere here and I buy them all the time, but for some reason DLs are nowhere to be found.

Maybe you can buy them over the internet. Many UK shops sell online. If you buy any other brand, you are going to have problems with DL media. That is the reality of the situation.
