just to let you all know the asus eeepc (1.6ghz atom) CAN play back 1080p mpeg-2 video in vlc with subs enabled. just make sure the video out is directX. cpu usage will stay at 75-90% in XP but the video does play stutter free. tested with mpegs i made in tmpeg 2.5 HP@HL max bit rate 80,000 constant quality 85. stream was around 15Mbps 5.1 ac3 448kbps audio and vob-sub subs in a mkv container. Enjoy! oh yeah at q85 the video is only ~10% bigger than the source . but after shrinking the audio to ac3 the resulting file is still ~25% smaller than the source file. AND it is able to be played on lower end machines (like the eeepc....)
