i have several avi clips i want to put into one. whats a simple program i can use to do this?
i have virtual dub 1.8.8 but it cant put several avi clips together.

Yes, it can under File->Append, but they must have exact same settings. If not then use an "advanced" editor like windows movie maker, ulead videostudio, adobe premiere elements, etc.

that append option was never functional but now i know why. you can tell im a total newbie lol. thanks.

If you rename the files you wish to combine to something like "01.avi", "02.avi", "03.avi", ... , etc they will be joined in one step, in that order.

Isn't AVIDemux a slight bit more flexible than VirtualDub in joining AVIs?

Yes. Like Baldrick said, the files have to have the exact same properties for Virtualdub to work. A file with a framerate of 29.970 will not join with a file with a framerate of 29.970000000000000000001 even if they're from the same clip and you created them with Virtualdub.
