  1. Hello, all.

This damned problem must pop up for me at least a few times a year.

    You all know the message:

"No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format."

VDM has been my everyday converter for years now, using it once every week or two. So, no more than 2 weeks ago the decompressor was findable. Yet now in trying to create a WAV file from an MPEG2/AC3 source, it gives me that friggin' message AGAIN.

I have AC3/ACM loaded. I have LAME loaded. I do not want to install any bloated codec pack such as KLite, even though that normally solved the problem.

All other sources have no problem playing the video and audio of the file(VLC, MPC, ConvertX, etc). I've reinstalled VDM and ffdshow. No help.

Undoubtedly, in the intervening time since I last used VDubMod successfully, I've added or removed some suite or element which took along with it the decompressor which VDub-MPEG2 uses? I've no idea what that may be. But it keeps happening and I'm sick of it.

Has anyone else here experienced and resolved this? (Without loading a monster codec pack.)

    Thank you for your help.

Sure, not long ago I had that. Re-installing AC3/ACM fixed it.

Sorry, that probably doesn't help. Anyway, I never could get ffdshow to work satisfactorily on my computers. Yes, lots of folks use it without problems. [shrugs]

Do you see anything "broken" with CodecSniper? Bad uninstall of something, as you suggested? Or perhaps codec priority was changed, you could reset default priorities of codecs with GraphEdit. At any rate you could view the filter chain and maybe get a clue from that.

    Good luck.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  3. Thanks very much, Frizti! Just saw your kind reply and will see what CodecSniper tells me. And that's a great suggestion regarding GraphEdit.
