My old laptop has an S video port on it so I can plug it directly into my tv. My new laptop has an HDMI port. I want to be able to connect it to my tv also. Is it possible to go from a laptop HDMI port to a TV with an S video connection using the PS 3 cable mentioned in the following web address? It looks to me like the cable has 2 RCA jacks and an S video plug on one end of the cable and a single AV connector on the other. The picture is not very clear and enlarging it doesn't help.

So, question #1. Will this cable do what I want it to do? Please don't take this the wrong way but all I need is a simple yes or no answer. It doesn't matter to me that the signal won't be in HD, my tv isn't HD.

And just to satisfy my curiosity if the answer is No,
Question #2. Is the AV end of this PS3 cable an HDMI connector?

No. The hdmi only outputs digital video and the svideo is analogue. You need something like http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdtosvad.html

The above cable is just for the ps3 to svideo.

Too much money for my needs. I guess I'll check into VGA to S Video instead. I think I saw a converter for $50 give or take. Either that or I'll have to invest in a new TV. Thanks for the info. I should have known it wasn't going to be easy.

VGA to S-Video converters will give a poor result.

I think you are better off to invest in a new TV.

What is your laptop model and what is your TV?
Are you certain there is no S-Video out?
