  1. Hello all,
I wouldn't be bugging you with this if the search function was up and running. I have been trying to convert The Usual Suspects and everytime I rip it (with Smartripper or VSTRIP) The sound when converted is asynch by exactly 8190 ms (I found this out by plugging into VD) Now I know I can frameserve and reencode in TMPGenc but that would reduce quality too much. I have also read the guides about inserting silence but I specifically remember someone about two months ago posting an easy way to fix this.....can someone please post again. There has to be a program that allows you to remux with a sound delay....HELP!!

    Thanks,

  2. Not sure if this is the method you are looking for.
Demultiplex the mpg clip (TMPGEnc ). You get a m1v(or m2v) and mp2 file.
You can Multiplex using bbMPEG with following steps.
    Open bbMPEG(click on AVI2mpg2).
In the main window, click Start Encoding.
In the dialog box opened click on Settings.
Select Input and Output Files tab and click on Open VS and add your m1v (or m2v) file. Click on Open AS1 and add your mp2 file.
On the Program Stream Settings tab, select your Program stream Type and at the bottom enter your Audio delay + or - 8190ms from the Video.Change other settings as desired and you are ready to go.

  3. Thanks you guys...that is EXACTLY the method I was looking for. It's funny...I NEVER have asynch problems...but I have never been able to get The Usual Suspects to work properly. THis should do it. Thanks guys.

  4. You know, I don't understand why this MUCH easier method isn't posted on this site or on Doom9's site. They both have the cooledit add in silence method...which I suppose works too...but it is so much more difficult. Moderators....how about adding this method to the guides page?

Macros you said that you found that your sound is out of synch by plugging it into VD? I'm trying to figure out by how much mine is out of synch and don't know how to do this. Could you elaborate on what you mean by plugging it into VD?

  6. Sure...Open VirtualDub. Then open your MPG file with virtualdub. After it does it's parsing thing you should be able to move freely throughout the movie using the slide bar. Then goto a place with some loud noise (i.e. a gunshot or a car door slam) and then figure out where, in relation to the picture the sound is. The you goto the audio menu and drop down select interleaving (sp?). It will ask you for an audio skew...if the sound happens before the video...then plug in a positive number...if it happens after...then use a negative number. Remember that the number you type in is MILLISECONDS...which, by definition are very tiny. So don't be afraid to type a substantial number in there. Anyhow, after some fiddling (i.e. plug in a number go back to the normal VD screen and play...find out how close you are to getting the two in synch) you will get fairly close to where you want to be (the gunshot is almost right). Then I would scan through the movie for a close up conversation scene. Really watch the synch with their lips and mess with the skew value accordingly. When you get it perfect, write down the number you used and strip the audio from the movie using BBMPEG or TMPGENC (demux) then remux using BBPEG as described above using the skew value you found in VD. It is a little frustrating and takes some time but isn't hard to do. Good luck.
