Can anyone recommend a recording program, which can record longer than the normal windows sound recorder, as I play guitar and want to record it on the PC something which can maybe record a whole hour

There's a trick you can do with the Windows sound recorder. Open a long WAV file (longer than you want to record). Set the mark in point at the start. Now you can record for as long as the WAV file. If you don't have a long WAV file sitting around just start recording one. When the sound recorder stops hit record again. It will append another minute or so. Do this repeatedly until you have the length you want.
Audacity is free, can record for as long as you want (or until you run out of memory), has lots of audio processing filters, and can save as WAV, MP3, etc. -
Audacity is very good and very powerful.
If you're going to do any post-processing, mixing, etc it's a good choice.
Alternatively, MP3DirectCut can record directly to MP3 (at any bitrate if you install Lame).
Both are freeware.
