Hello all,
I wonder how to (using one piece of software if possible) convert an AVI movie to DVD, incorporating subs (.srt format), and burning the resulting movie onto a blank DVD -rw which will then be playable on standalone DVD's.
Thank you!

I know I have put this question, more or less, before to this forum. But I persist, because last time I was recommended DVD Flick, which is fine I suppose, but some resulting DVD's won't play in e.g. Nero ShowTime but will play in Power DVD, some will play in VLC Media Player but not in WinDVD - all will play fine, however, in the itty-bitty KMPlayer, no problem...go figure!
See, here's what I want to do: convert .avi-files to DVD format, add subs if any, preferably burn directly to the blank DVD and finally be confident it will play in my friends standalone DVD players. There it is.
Oh, yes, one more thing: does it matter, as far as subsequent 'readability' goes if its a rewritable disc or a straight R?

Re-writable discs are not designed for long term storage. Eventually the material will break down because it's designed to be re-writable. Write once discs are designed for long term storage. Note that some older DVD players may have problems with re-writable DVDs and not play them at all. So yes it can matter in that DVD+/-R will have a higher chance of playback on any random DVD player than using DVD+/-RW. If you only want to playback on a PC and you intend to use the disc relatively soon after burning, then RW discs should be OK. If you're going to want to play the disc, say, 2+ years later, you need to use DVD+/-R discs.
I don't know why some of your DVDs won't play in some media players, but maybe it's some issue with DVD Flick. -
OK, thanks jman98!
