real media to avi help

i'm looking for a simple freeware rm converter to avi. i used the trial version of WinAVI, which worked great but I only have to convert one thing and don't want to pay $30. i have looked at the other rm to avi tools out there and they are very hard to use. please let me know. thanks.

Try SUPER. It does a good job, but be sure to read the comments about it here at VideoHelp, especially re: its attempts to phone home & access your network.

this is NO advanced conversion. I use real alternative and xvid4psp.

Well, I reckon one option worth considering is to use ConvertXtoDVD, either as an end in itself, (I can attest to good results), or as a stepping stone on your road to an avi conversion (untested).
Eh .... may not meet your requirements as free though...
