I recently purchsed the movie SHREK on DVD for my little girl. She loves the movie and sometimes would like to watch it in her room which only has a VHS tape player. I have tried to copy the DVD to tape but with little success. The tape rolls, loses colour & is very hard to watch. Can anyone suggest a way to copy a DVD to tape or can't it be done?

PS...... I can copy a VCD to tape using the same VHS recorder with no problems.

I'm only new to this stuff and have read lots of stuff on this site. I have only just in the last couple of weeks been able to produce a VCD that works on my standalone DVD player thanks only to this site which without I would still be lost. I'm sorry but I don't know about macrovision although I have heard it mentioned on this site before. Perhaps it's because I've been trying to absorb so much new stuff about producing VCD's that the macrovision thing just couldn't be comprehended.
I'm recording from a stanalone DVD player which is a Toshiba sd-1300.

& YES this post is for real!

I Believe You can do it by ripping the DVD to your hard drive and encoding the VOB's to say 352 X 240 and outputing the files to a VCR that is recording, Ive never tried it so I dont know maybe someone else better help u

  6. Try to find one of the old "Video Stablizers"
It removes most of the Macrovision fx in the analog domain (also when recording tape to tape)
You'll find them in video zines and some electronics stores for around $20 U.S.

Yes, you can do that. It definitely sounds like Macrovision is your problem. If you have a DVD drive and a TV output card on your computer, you should be able to use software such as DVD Decryptor to make a copy of the VOB files (without the Macrovision) onto your hard drive. From there, use the DVD player software to play the VOB files back out through the TV output card onto VHS. I did this once and work out surprisingly well. I use an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 card. Of course, beware of how you use the VHS tape to avoid legal problems.
