    Hi guys

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

I have searched the forum and found a similar problem way back in 2005 but unfortunately nothing listed has worked. I've tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling DVD driver & IDE
Updating / rolling back driver software
    Downloading a registry edit (CDGONE.reg)
System restore back about one week
    Windows Help... haha!

The device still doesn't work. It is internal in my laptop and has worked fine.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Cheers, Marcus

It's tough to work with a laptop drive as it's difficult to pull it out and try in another computer. But my guess is the drive is the problem. If you could boot to a Linux or PE disc, you could rule out the OS as the problem. Maybe from a USB thumb drive.

If you have to give up on it, consider a USB external optical drive. I've replaced the optical drive in one laptop and it can be a major project, besides being very expensive.

And have you looked in the BIOS settings to see if the drive shows there? It should show in BIOS even without the system drivers loaded.

It would also be helpful to tell us your laptop brand and model as others may have knowledge of the problem.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. I just had a problem with a device driver in vista I think it was code 39 driver is corrupted or missing there was an entry in the registry I had to remove in the cd/dvd driver section you may want to look at that section of the registry the tech at lenovo told me it was probably put there by a program I installed all I did was delete it and the driver installed when starting up windows
