  1. Hello all:
    I converted some tv shows that were in dvr-ms format to XVID with WinFF. They look and sound perfect on my computer but when I play them with my Linksys DMA2100 media extender I get no sound except a little chirp every now and then. Anyone else had this problem or now what might be the problem?

    What audio codec are you using? I guess mp3 is the default in winff for xvid. You could try copy the audio if it's ac3.

  3. Well, it looks like it's the internal ffmpeg codec "libmp3lame". Here is the audio line from the winff preset;

    -acodec libmp3lame -ar 48000 -ab 128k -ac 2

    I am thinking that my dma 2100 can't read the output from this codec. I don't know what you mean when you say to copy the audio if it's ac3.
    I know a little about all this but I'm no expert...that's why I'm using winff!!! What a great and simple program.
    I was thinking i could try to use lame_enc.dll, so I put the dll in the same folder as winff and substituted it for libmp3lame in the command line preset. But that didn't work, ffmpeg couldn't find lame_enc.dll. Kinda stuck here........

    By copy I mean that you will not reconvert the audio, just leave at as ac3 in the avi. Change the preset to "-acodec copy" instead of "-acodec libmp3lame".

    Or try change to -ar 44000 audio and see if it works better.

  5. I tried to copy the ac3 audio but wound up with a file that was 190MB out of a 54MB scource file....everytime explorer went to that dir it crashed had to delete it in safe mode. I tried 44000 but that must be a unworkable bitrate and the encoder wouldn't do anything...i tried 44100 and it did encode but still will not play through the extender. mmmmmmmm.
