Sony BDP-S350 only gives B/W picture

My old DVD player broke down and I bought a new Sony BDP-S350 blu-ray player.
Unfortunately I couldn't afford to buy a flat screen at the same moment, so I have to connect it to my old CRT televison which only has a SCART connection.
I have connected the S350 via a combined SCART to S-Video/cinch Audio cable which is silly but for the moment the only possibility to watch DVDs. The Sony manual describes this way of low resolution connection, but with me it only gives a B/W picture.

Has anyone an idea how I can get a color picture from the S350 on my old CRT (for a few weeks/months) ?

Black and white when using S-Video means that the TV is looking for a composite signal, not S-Video. Depending on how old your TV is, it may not be possible for it to accept an S-Video signal. If it has more than one SCART socket it is usual that one will be configured to accept composite and RGB while the other will be configured so it will accept composite or S-Video. If using S-Video, you will need to select it using the remote for the TV. Usually when selecting external inputs they will be designated as AV1, AV2, etc. What you need to find is the setting that will give you AV1S or AV2S, then the SCART will accept an S-video signal. Alternatively, you may have a further input, often on the front or side of the TV, for connecting a games console or camcorder. If this simply has yellow, red and white phono sockets it is composite only, but if it also has a 4 pin Mini-DIN, this is S-video capable. If your TV only has one SCART, it is unlikely that it can accept an S-Video signal.

Thanks for your clear explanation why things do not work properly on an old TV set.
It took me some days to come back to the forum because I wanted to try out the different suggestions you made.
Indeed my TV has only a single SCART socket and obviously this one does not accept an S-Video signal.
And there are no options to configure it from RGB to S-Video (yes, this is truly an archaic set !).

So, despite the credit crisis and savings flown away to Iceland, I will have to buy myself for Christmas a nice, new HD flatscreen.
I have layed eyes on the Sony KDL-40EX1, although the size of it may be a bit too much for the viewing distance of 2.20-2.50 metres I have to respect in my (rather small) living room. I prefer a 32" or 37" screen, but I haven't seen so far any Full HD 100Hz flatscreens of this size.
