What's the best way to put together a tripod with remote control
for zoom and record, and whatever else? Will the Sony VCT-60AV:

run a GL1? If not, what will work?

    Thanks,
    David

Look for the words LANC for Canon, as it will be the controller which will work with your camera. That tripod you linked to is going to be shaky on pans. You have to invest some money to get a decent tripod, otherwise you won't be happy with your results.

That's a fun little travelling tripod
First, you need to ask yourself how you're going to use it
Field? Studio? Fun? Pro? Family? Docu?

A pro tripod with a real fluid head runs several hundred dollars. These small ones use "fluid action" in which a friction head tries to mimic fluid. They fail miserably

As you can see, it's a very expensive hobby. I had to cut several corners, myself

I recommend reading up as much as possible on this critical piece of gear. It's the difference between amateur and pro shots

(I had a little travelling tripod on the road with me...it fell over and actually broke. I replaced it with a used cheapo from a flea market ($10) and when I was finished, left it at the train station and headed home because it wasn't even worth the hassle of carrying)
