I've spent the past hour looking for fixes to enable MKV (H.264 encodes) thumbnails to work with Haali installed. So far I've only been able to generate thumbnails with no WMP association (clicking on the files would not open WMP). When associated with WMP, thumbnails are not generated and reverts back to the default movie icon.

Yes, I have cleared thumbnail cache. Yes, I have cleared WMP library. Oddly enough, thumbnails are generated fine in the WMP library but does not carry over to Explorer.

For video files you can use Thumbnailer from CapTrue. It is a WMP plugin, and when you using it you can assign ANY frame of your video as a thumbnail. Works with .mov either.
    More info http://captrue.com/news/thumbnailer-1.5-release.html
Actually this is shareware program, but the thumbnails generation is not limited.
