  1. Hi Guys,

I am trying to upload some videos onto a video sharing site but they have to be a specific file size, no more than 50mb each. The clips I want to add from a recent project are big file sizes (clips at about 300mb each) is there any software out there that I can specify how big I want the file size to be when I compress the clips?

So if I wanted to make sure the clips were both 50mb, is there some mac based software I can use that will allow me to specify the exact file size? Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance!

Just some general advice as all my encoding experience is with Windows...

Some encoders do let you specify a final size. I know of some in Windows that do, but that's not helpful to you.

Another way to go is to use a bit rate calculator and input the length of your file in minutes and figure out what bit rate you'll need for a desired size. The upside of calculating the bit rate yourself is that you can use any encoder you like, including one that doesn't let you specify a final size.

  3. Thanks for the reply Jman, its appreciated.

If anyone has any further help about an acutal application that would be great as I seem to randomly compress clips with various end results.

  6. I know that using Visual Hub and going to the advanced settings I can select "fit each video in __ mb" but when I do define an amount (such as 50mb) it doesnt stick to it and always goes over.

    Any help is welcome!

in VisualHub tweak the following under advanced:

    1. Frame Rate: cut it down from 29 or 24 to 15
    2. Audio Hz: cut it down to 32000
    3. Cut down the overal size: if it is 640 x 480, cut to 320 x 240,
    if 320 x 240 cut down to 288 x 176.

    that should do it.
