    I was wondering what is the simplest way to add black borders to the top and the bottom of an .mkv video encoded with h264? I don't want to convert the format I just want to add some black padding on the top and bottom of the video.

    Unless you do it during playback in say VLC, you'll have to re-encode it. I believe AVIDeMux can do that and has the appropriate filter too.
