  1. If you are in the market for a capture card such as the Dazzle DVC2, make sure that the motherboard you have can bus master correctly.

If the mobo cannot, the card will lock up on you every time.

AMD chipsets tend to be more guilty of this than Pentium ones.

I've had to buy another motherboard because the AMD761 chipset on my Gigabyte 7iEX4 mobo doesn't bus master correctly

The new motherboard I'm getting is an MSI board with the KT133a chipset. This chipset is said to work correctly. Hehe, I'll find out soon enough!

If I were you I wouldn't waste my money on changing at this point in time to KT133A. Go to a new motherboard that has KT266 and willsupport a processor up to 1.7GHZ. Believe me it isn't that much more money and if you are getting into Video Capture, you are really going to need it.

Check out the reviews on MOtherboards and you'll find that the ABIT KG7A-RAID, is the best performance and a good price. If you really want an old KT133, I'll sell you mine at a bargain and I'll buy the new one.

    :P

  3. My mobos and the good luck I get with them,

Abit SAR6 intel 815 chipset, 133 mhz mem p3 933 512mb ( maxed out on 815 solano chipset ), raid0 ( hipooint ) firewire port, work well direct video ( digital ) from a Canon GL1, all drives ( except the boot drive ) are NTFS partioned, including the Raid0 set up ( 160 gbs ), All drives are 7200 rpm ata 100.

rig number 2 is Soyo P4s Dragon Ultra, p4 2 ghz 512 mb 333 ddr mem firewire ( via Audigy Drive ) 160 gb raid0. Also works well with no lock ups, all drives like other are NTFS except boot drive. All drives are ata 133 7200 rpm.

  4. Just an addition to that: if you have a recent Intel Chipset, I strongly suggest you go to the Intel website and download
    Application Accelerator
Which is the software that replaces the Intel bus mastering drivers. I have found it to be much more stable than its predecessor under Win 98 and Win XP for boards sporting the 845 or 850 chipsets.

    Cheers

  5. Bstansbury,

I thought about getting the KG7 RAID board. After consulting a list of motherboards (the link can be found by searching the forum here) that were tested with the Dazzle DVC2, those boards didn't fare all that well. The KT133a chipset mobos for the most part did not have any conflicts. That's the reason I chose it.

My CPU is a T-Bird 1.2 Ghz which works fine on that board. Remember, that machine is going to be using a Dazzle DVC2 to capture the video. Not as much CPU power is needed for that as opposed to using TMPGEnc on an AVI file, for example. Thanks for your input though!
