    Hi,

I am looking for an opinion from someone that has a good knowledge about audio. What I am doing is converting DVDs to a PS3 playable format by using RipBot264, but I am unsure about which audio method to use.

This is what I can choose from:

    5.1 CT AAC-LC 320kbps
    5.1 Aften AC3 640 kbps
    x.x Copy Stream

The original DVD (or DVDs) in question has Dolby Digital 5.1 sound running at 448 kbps.

Which option would give the best possible sound? And is there a good amount of difference between any of these choices?

use the original stream - copy stream. That should work just fine.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. Best quality sound will always be the original. However, AC3 is not completely compatible in the .mp4 container (assuming you are using x264 in .mp4), and I don't think PS3 supports 5.1 AAC yet

So the stream copy would in fact be the best choice of the three?

PS3 does support 5.1 AAC as far as I know. On the PS3 it only works through the HDMI channel, but since I am planning on using a media server to stream the media, I don't think it should make a difference. However I am going to make a test to see if it does.

You are right about the AC3, when I check RipBot it is listed only when using the MKV container.
