I have tried, alt--shift--C and turned them off in the menu but they are still there..
they wernt there before i down loaded a few codecs ?????

1080p in what container? mkv? Then I would play using Media PLayer Classic instead and you can disable the subs from Navigate->Subtitle Language or Play->Subtitles or Play->Filters->filename.mkv->No subtitles
But if you prefer WMP then do you see any icons in the taskbar notification area? Then can you right click on they and disable the subtitles. -

Yes there are mkv's,
i dont like vlc it doesnt like it when i FF the player bar forward ,
why do people say that media player classic is better???? im finding media player 11 fine, i installed CCC codec
thing and all has been well with it -
You might look into Media Player Classic Home Cinema as it's set up for HD. Most times I can barely get WMP11 to work well with anything other than WMV.
