I have CyberLink Media Suite 8 on my Windows 7 32 bits computer and a Plextor PX-B940SA Player/writer. My graphics card is cloned to my TV, connected with HDMI cable. I used this for the first time yesterday to play a commercial BD.
1) After 20 min the playback stopped. There was an unintelligible message probably saying something about copy protection.
Would upgrading to CyberLink media suite 9 solve the problem?
2) The TV screen was just bluish-gray during these 20 min. Is this just an aspect of the same problem? There is no problem viewing on TV DVDs played on the computer.

It could be a hdmi hdcp problem, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection .
You could try trial of anydvdhd and it will remove the hdcp. -
I think there is a very high probability that upgrading will NOT fix your problem.
If you need to play BD discs on a PC, the ONLY sane software player is Arcsoft Total Media Theater. EVERYTHING else made by other companies, including Cyberlink and PowerDVD, is just a waste of money. However, if you have Nero and you bought the suite where you get everything, they have some kind of file player that can play BD movies. It's low function though, but it does work. -
Let me guess, you got that bundled with your Blu-Ray writer? So did I, but I didn't install it, thinking it was probably a bloated piece of junk. When I get a chance, maybe this evening, I'll have a go with it.
I'd be willing to bet, though, that the player itself is essentially the same as PowerDVD (same company). Which has a poor reputation here.
Yeah, TMT or TME are much better than PowerDVD, but they're a bit spendy. I got TME bundled with my HD-PVR.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Thank you all.
I did put a lot of energy into reading reviews etc befor byuing CyberLink Media Suite (not bundled!) one year ago, at quiet a high price I think. I principally needed a program that could 1) edit videos and burn DVD/BD 2) playback commercial BD. The first it does quiet well. Apart from not doing the second it will not do the simple task of copying DVDs that do not have a copy protection. And it will not copy commercial DVDs with anyDVD running. Probably this means that it will not play BDs with anyDVD running either. Allright-I think I will follow your advice and not upgrade to 9. -
You can copy unprotected DVDs for free with ImgBurn. Look here:
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6380
It is a 2 step process.
1) Make an ISO image of the original DVD to your PC's hard disk.
2) Burn the ISO image to a new DVD disc.
I think I remember hearing that Cyberlink and AnyDVD don't play nice together. But I'll warn you that Cyberlink may not copy unprotected DVDs even if you turn off AnyDVD as that may be too close to allowing it to copy a protected DVD for their Hollywood masters to feel comfortable with.
