  1. Hello-
I just bought an Apex 5131. It is cool that it plays so many formats and makes a good carousel CD player (I have limited space, to get a DVD player I needed to take something out of the entertainment center). All-in-all, a great bang-for-buck EXCEPT that the remote does not work well. I have to press the buttons several times and wave it around (even when directly in front of the unit). I have a friend who also purchased one at the same time and he also has the problem.

Anyone see this before? Any solutions?

    Thanks,

    Hello!

I have the same APEX 5131 and the remote is pretty much a piece of crap. I have to make sure the remote is pointed just right at the DVD player for it to work. Sometimes I also have to press some of the buttons several times for them to work.

I got the DVD player because of its functionality. Love the DVD player hate the remote.

Unfortunately, I have heard all the remotes are like this. The only think I could suggest is investing in a universal remote.

Thanks for the reply. I may call the company but I suspect we are stuck with an almost useless remote. I have been meaning to invest in a universal "learning" remote anyway. However my friend who also bought the machine did some testing which leads us to believe that it may not be the remote so much as the sensor on the front panel. He solved the problem by using a re-transmitter with leads that actually affix to the sensors of the components (hard to not recieve the signal at THAT range). Thats not really a cost-effective solution for me since this is the only component that needs it.

Has anyone tried controlling the 5131 with a universal? Good results?

  4. Don't waste your money, it's not the remote, it's the IR receiver in the unit.
