OK, so pretty much, I recorded a bunch of clips with Fraps (at 60 fps) and I made a movie with Vegas. The movie is about 7 minutes long. While rendering, I see a black preview screen. Afterwords, the output movie has a black screen, no audio and is about 2 minutes long.

OK, so you don't provide too much detail because ?

Can you see the video on the timeline - actually see the images ?
What are you selecting for output - format/type etc ?
Are you using any effects or overlays ?

Can you see the video on the timeline - actually see the images ? Yes
What are you selecting for output - format/type etc ? DivX avi
Are you using any effects or overlays ? Only transitions

Never had much luck getting Vegas to output Divx or Xvid directly. It is also of concern that you can't see anything in the preview window.

A couple of things to check/try

    1. Check the opacity level of your time line. Move the mouse over the top of the timline. You should get a tool tip saying Opacity is 100%. if you don't, move the mouse down to the bottom of the timeline and see if you get a tool tip saying Opacity is 0 %.. If you do, click on it and drag it back up the top.

    2. Try outputting to something simple like DV first until you get the black output problem solved.

How many timelines do you have in the project ?
