When im reauthoring with DVDShrink & using Start/End to extract a segment, in Start/End i have to scroll across to match up with where i was previewing the video (bottom left)

Surely when im previewing and come to a place where i want to start or end i should be able to pause the video there, then do something to start or end? Maybe a keyboard control, or im overlooking something?

It seems strange i cant do this as when im watching the video (in bottom left preview) it doesnt say what time or frame im at, so when i Start/End i have to go by the picture position.

I can sometimes just match up the pictures but alot of the time the picture is pretty much samesame at different points so its hard to distinguish where to Start/End.

I think this prog is a great tool & this is its only flaw...

If anyone could help it would be making my life that little bit easier....thanks

  2. shrink really isn't an editor which is what you need, to be doing what you ask. most people probably never use the cutting function of shrink. the easiest way i find, is to try and make your cuts on the chapter points you can get to with the drop down numbers.

Exactly....just take a full chapter and edit it down later with a real editor.

Whats a good editor to use for previewing an ISO & cutting out segments?

Preferably to cut out segments & save as ISO or VOB as i need to keep DVD quality out of the original ISO.

If like you suggest, i take out a couple chapters for the bit i want to edit, extract to VOB, what editor should i use to edit the VOB?
I def need to save the output as VOB, ISO or mpg for the DVD quality.

Ive used Avidemux recently & liked the interface but i think that only deals with PSP's IPod etc...(except the ipod output didnt even work in my ipod or itunes, thats besides the point!)

If you could suggest good DVD quality editor id really appreciate it

    Thanks...

  5. AFAIK you can't edit ISO files.Use IsoBuster to convert to DVD files then edit with Ulead Videostudio,TDA,etc.
Only save your work as an ISO file when you are done editing, outputting DVD files is also fine.

I can always use DVDShrink to extract the ISO to VOB, TDA looks really good but its $70! At the moment im just looking for freeware that can cut up a VOB or ISO or MPG, and save to the same format.

Eventually i will buy TDA as it looks like a great all in one tool, but with TDA can i also cut a segment then save that individual segment as a VOB/ISO/MPG? (for future use in compilations)

The fact it does importing, editing, authoring & burning under one roof is great, & i could hold onto tools like iso buster, imgburn, GUIforDVDAuthor, DVDShrink etc for backups....

At the mo im just looking for freeware that lets me edit segments of an ISO, VOB, or MPG & save as the same...

    Thanks...

For simple cutting and pasting, you may want to look at MPEGStreamclip. It's easy to use.

Thanks but it asks me to reinstall quicktime so i do, but then it still doesnt open the VOB, it says i need to buy the plugin for quicktime to play mpeg2. I then tried downloading QT alternative & it still doesnt work.

There has to be a free editor that works with vobs?

    If not...
    Back to DVDShrink
