  1. I have an SVCD CD that has an .mpg file in a folder called MPEG2. This .mpg file will play standalone (without the CD) in VLC player.

There is about a 3 minute segment (audio/video combined) that I want to copy from this file into just a single file (edit)

Are there any freeware programs that will allow me to do this, say mark and in position and an out position?

    Cheers Chris

There are freeware editors, but you should be aware that they are extremely limited and in my opinion not worth the effort. You can download both VideoReDo and MPEGVCR as "try before you buy" programs. I don't think the functionality is limited and for a one shot edit, you could use one of them. If you're going to need to do regular edits, just pay for something.

The file resides on the CD in CDXA M2F2 sectors, so to do it correctly you should remove the extra baggage before editing (using VCDEasy or VCDGear or ISOBuster).

Then, I would use something like Cuttermaran, if you can get close enough to the exact points via cutting on an I-frame. You may have to demux first, if so I'd use Imago, Xmuxer, TMPGEnc to demux to the MPEG V+A. Then remux after editing (MPEG2 PS type).

  4. Thanks guys. I did this using a great program called EasyMPEG MX on a trial version. Its a WYSIWYG editor and mega simple. Mark in and Mark out, preview, and then process, saves it as an avi file. Cheers
