I know this is possible. I currently have a pioneer 115d burner. I burn at 6x usually and it take 10 minutes to complete. If I were to buy another burner how long do you think it would take for 2 dvds to complete. I have 704mb of ram should I upgrade? Thanks

    Need to know more.

What burning program are you using ? Most burning software doesn't support the simultaneous use of multiple drives.

    CPU ?

Using Alcohol 120%, I was able to burn three DVDs simultaneously with 1 gb of RAM, so maybe you're ok in that department. Still, with prices so low, I'd add more just to get better overall performance.

    dymx;

When I burned three at a time, I used Alcohol 120%. Alcohol 120% is not a free application but it does offer a free evaluation period.

I've heard some versions of Nero support multiple burners and that at least one version of Pinnacle does as well. You will need to research your burning software (Nero) and see if your version has support for this particular task. Perhaps others can offer additional recommendations.

I'm unaware of multiple burner support in Imgburn.

Using Alcohol 120%, I was able to simultaneously burn three copies in about twelve and one-half minutes, faster than if I had burned one at a time but not by a huge margin. Increasing the RAM from 1gb to 2.5 gb had no noticeable effect- good or bad as related to DVD backup. My current PC specs are listed in the computer info drop-down.
I normally burn at maximum speed and use only Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks.

Keep in mind that you will first need to rip the original material to your hard drive, then make your copies and in order to do so will require decryption software. Alcohol 120% may support on-the-fly duplication to multiple burners but I've never tried it and don't recommend on-the-fly duplication under any circumstances.

The bottom line is that using the multiple burner support feature was interesting, but offered for me very little in terms of saved time.

I just bought a burner and used nero to burn them. it burned successfully. I did a disc quality test with cdspeed and got quality of 30% for one and 90% for the other. I was using taiyo at 8x. My buffer level for the one that got 30% was very low while burning. I usually get between 93-95% with cdspeed when I burned one dvd at a time. What do you think the problem is?

Also I watched the dvd burned at 30% and it seems to play fine which is weird.

The problem is trying to burn too many discs at once.

Many of those "quality tests" don't necessarily tell you anything truly meaningful anyway.
It's just numbers for the sake of having numbers.

I suppose your new drive is also a IDE burner. If you want a dvd burner where the buffer levels will not fluctuate then buy a SATA dvd burner. As long as the dvd discs playback that's all that matters. Also use good quality dvd media like VERBATIM and TAIYO YUDEN.

I've burned two disc at the same time and they both turned out ok. I'm using two Plextor, a 712 and a 716, on an Athlonxp 2000 with 512MB. The buffer on the 712 was fluctuating too, it would go down to zero then burn proof would kick in and carry on no problem. The thing I noticed is the 716 would finish before the the 712 even though both drives were burning at 4X. I think this points to the answer, both drives should be the same to avoid problems.

It turns out that my liteon burner just hates tyg03 but loves tygo2- Quality rating for both were 95. I buy my media from shop4tech and they use to sell G02's but now sell G03's only. Anyone know of a cheap site that I can buy G02's from? Also, liteons seem to be very picky, I had a few tdks lying around and tested the quality rating and it was below 50% Yikes!
